Scholarships that have been set up throughout the country honoring the Tuskegee Army Nurses

Louise Lomax Winters Scholarship Fund

In 2011, the daughter of former Tuskegee Airmen nurse, 1LT Louise Lomax, presented a gift to the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Nursing to establish a scholarship in her mother’s name. Her mother was a 1942 graduate of the segregated St. Philip Hospital School of Nursing which was under the Medical College of Virginia which is now part of Virginia Commonwealth University. The gift provides ongoing financial support for scholarships for nursing students enrolled in the VCU School of Nursing. Preference is given to (a) a student or students from a population or group that is under represented in the nursing profession, (b) residents of Nottoway County, Virginia, and (c) descendants of the alumnae of St. Philip School of Nursing. VCU School of Nursing’s assistant dean for enrollment and student services, or the individual in charge of student affairs, will select the student or students for this scholarship based on the student’s scholastic merit and financial need, using the scholarship and awards process developed by the School.

Contributions for the scholarship can be mailed to the: VCU School of Nursing Development Office, P.O. Box 980567, Richmond, Virginia 23298-0567. Make checks out to the MCV Foundation and write Louise Lomax Winters Scholarship on the memo line. You can also make a gift online at this website. You will be able to select where you would like to designate your gift and a tax receipt will auto generate.
